The first international conference for CFBT and Structural Firefighting Instructors was hosted by kind invitation of the Swedish Rescue Services Agency (Raddningsverket) at the Revinge Fire Training College, in the south of Sweden, during the week 12th-16th May 2008. This conference brought a range of expert scientists and firefighting practitioners together from Europe, Australia and North America for a concentrated week of presentations and live fire demonstrations where a unique exchange of views and knowledge took place

The tactical approaches directed at compartment fire stabilization using fire gas cooling, positive pressure attack, fire isolation and tactical ventilation techniques were debated by such noted scientists as Dr Stefan Svensson and Dr Stefan Sardqvist (Swedish Rescue Services Agency) working alongside Fire Engineers Steve Kerber (NIST USA) and Paul Grimwood (retired London Fire Brigade & now with WSP Group UK).

Stabilizing the Compartment Fire Environment
The tactical approaches directed at compartment fire stabilization using fire gas cooling, positive pressure attack, fire isolation and tactical ventilation techniques were debated by such noted fire scientists as Dr Stefan Svensson and Dr Stefan Sardqvist (Swedish Rescue Services Agency).

Other notable firefighting practitioners, fire chiefs and CFBT/PPV instructors  from the USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK included Steve Kerber, Paul Grimwood, Ed Hartin, Shan Raffel, John McDonough, Lasse Nelson, Frederik Johansson, Stephane Morizot, Kris Garcia, Peter McBride, Jurgen Ernst, Juan Carlos Campana and Maciej Mackowski. A most constructive week followed where both the theory and practice of structural firefighting were debated, bringing firefighting and science together in an effort to solve complex problems associated with some of the the well known (but perhaps not so well understood) practical constraints of structural fire suppression operations.

The development of this working and consultation group will be ongoing during 2008-09, with their work directed at advancing and integrating international techniques, methods and tactics that affect compartmental fire stabilization, resulting in greater firefighter safety inline with their operational effectiveness.
